Data Backup: Tests for a change from TeamDrive

As with version TeamDrive 2.3.116 has introduced a restriction in the free version of the client to use its own WebDAV server, I have made myself on the search for alternatives. First, I DeltaCopy installed - but that can not deal with special characters in file names correctly even with path lengths longer than about. 256 Sign process.

Other searches I'm on QtdSync encountered: It easily copied files with umlauts in the name and path lengths of more than 256 Characters are also not a problem (tested with version 0.6. 14beta). Also it can put the data on every backup operation in a separate directory on the server, so that old versions retained. So that this space is consumed for all non modified files, generates sucked QtdSync. Hard links, meaning. the directory entries on the hard drive, refer to the same physical memory on the hard disk as the unmodified file from the previous backup. Only Linux file systems (p.E.. EXT) and NTFS, but not FAT support hard links. This means, that should store the backup on a file system supports hard links.

With Teamdrive QtdSync unfortunately also has disadvantages:

  1. QtdSync can obviously not old versions secure and at the same time perform a synchronization. All versions are preserved in the mode of "differential" backup., but changes on the server will be played back on the client. In the "Synchronization" mode, changes are probably restored from the server to the client, but not old versions can be stored. I haven't tried yet, whether two backup profiles create an and the same directory on the client, one in the mode, and one to secure the old versions. I think actually that would have to go.
  2. A modified file is loaded automatically immediately after the close on the server. You have to press on the backup button, or execute it automatically times.
  3. Because QtdSync not know renames of files and directories, simply appear as deleted and added files. Therefore, they are also once again transferred to the server and there additional space. Since it renames files typically not too often, that shouldn't be a problem. Only when automatic mass rename, die man z.B. can make sense in photos, It produces a large mountain of redundant data.

QtdSync is free of charge, open source and released under GPL license.

can you further define restriction? thanks 🙂

  2. robert says:

In the version 2.3.116 (and probably exceptional version 2.3.139 the restriction has not), You can also for a self-hosted WebDAV server no more than 10 GB automatically sync keep leave with Teamdrive.

    Greeting,
    robert.
